1.11 1-10 13-14

  1. Coal, Oil and Natural Gas
  2. Solar, Wind Hydro
  3. Because Australia has lots of sun and winds so it would like to exploit those resources.
  4. China, USA, India, Australia
  5. 76 Billion Tonnes
  6. $4 Billion per year
  7. It will power sattelites and will cover 0.8 Square Kilometers.
  8. 1.5 Megawatts per turn
  9. Advantages
    Disadvantages
    Renewable Power source
    Wastes a lot of space
Doesn't need to be powered or waste money on things to power it
Only power 2% of Australia power
    Powers 18000 farms
    Cost $65 million dollars
    10. The advantages of renewable is that people do not have to waste money on using fuels like gas, coal or petrol to draw power to the plant which other other nonrenewable sources do.
    13. They are all concentrated in the the western part of NSW and easter part of central Australia and out to sea.
    14. a) i) $18 Billion ii) $5 billion iii) $3.4 billion B) $25 Billion ii) $5.5 Billion iii) $3.3 billion

1.10 1-18

  1. Resources are anything that can be used
  2. Renewable resources are resources that can be used more than one while non-renewable resources can only be used once
  3. They can become non renewable by over-exploitation
  4. Soil is valuable because it allows people to grow things and build things for use
  5. Silviculture is the practice of controlling the establishment, growth, composition, health, and quality of forests to meet diverse needs and values of the many landowners, societies and cultures.
  6. 164.4 million hectares
  7. $2 Billion
  8. that they only allow a certain amount of it in weight to be fished e.g. 5265 tonnes of southern blue fin tuna a year
  9. Uranium, Coal
  10. Because more seams of minerals are being discovered
  11. Australia is no where near covered in forests only 21% and we only export <1% of our exports our wood compared to 38% japan so we have nearly nothing in forests and we export nothing in Wood
  12. Uranium is a valuable resource because 1 tonne of Uranium creates as much energy as 120000 tonnes of coal
  13. Because they preserve some sites for future generations.
  14. The Uranium mining scars the land for the uranium which is irreversible.
  15. Australia fishing lands extends all around Australia
  16.  a) Australia's uranium reserves are more in the Northern Territory and Western Australia B) Radium Hill c) Ranger

Year 9 Wednesday 16/3: The Earthquake and Tsunami in Japan

1. There wasn't much of a epicenter of the Earth quake because there has been 400 after shocks all on the eastern side mainly around the fukkashima daiachi and neighboring power plants. The main earthquake was a magnitude of 9.0. The epicenter was around the Nuclear power plants of fukushima daiiachi, fukushima daiani, Onogawa, Tokai. Fukushima Daiiachi was hit the hardest.
2. The Maximum Quake was 9.0 Magnitude and the min 4.0 the average quake size was 7.5 Magnitude.
3. The most effected areas are the Eastern side by the Nuclear Power Plants because the Earthquake was off the coast creating the tsunami which came in and destroyed thousands of houses and buildings. Some of the villages have been completely wiped out by the tsunami completely This is a link to an animation of the devastation
4. The imposing man made disaster is that the reactors in the Nuclear reactors mainly Fukushima Daiiachi which has 6. One has cracked another has had a hydrogen explosion another has no water. So from these destruction they might explode and the radiation levels has already increased so if a meltdown occurs then it might be like a second Chernobyl.

1.7

    1. Because Australia is an island and the aboriginals were so under advanced that none of the things on Australia moved and got in contact to other places so lots of the things are only here because they never got to other countries to spread
  1. The species have survived because they have adapted to Australians climate so they wouldn't die out.
  2. Endemic means things that are only found in one place like Koalas and platypus
  3. 89%
  4. The great barrier reef, The Queensland forests, Blue Mountains Forests
  5. The Tropical rain forest
  6. Marsupials are animals that have pouches instead of laying eggs, Kangaroo
  7. Monotremes lay eggs, Platypus
  8. Wallabies prefer rocky grounds and are smaller but Kangaroos prefer grasslands and are larger.
  9. The bizarre appearance of this egg-laying, venomous, duck-billed, beaver-tailed, otter-footed mammal baffled European naturalists when they first encountered it, with some considering it an elaborate fraud. It is one of the few venomous mammals; the male platypus has a spur on the hind foot that delivers a venom capable of causing severe pain to humans. The unique features of the platypus make it an important subject in the study of evolutionary biology and a recognisable and iconic symbol of Australia; it has appeared as a mascot at national events and is featured on the reverse of the Australian 20 cent coin. The platypus is the animal emblem of the state of New South Wales.

  2. Canberra to Melbourne
  3. Because they are really old and have been eroded by water.
  4. Southern edge of Amadeus basin.
  5. Uluru is a large 9.2 meter long red rock. it isn't very jagged and is very easy to climb because their is a fence/handrail and it has a rubber scar that was made by our feet and will be their for another 50 thousand years. it is red because of the iron dust from the iron mines in WA.
  6. Because it passes through less atmosphere filtering the blue colour is more at night then at day
  7. an Area of land that has been drained by a river.
  8. Murry Darling and Lake Eyre
  9. Murry river, Murrumbidgee, Darling River
  10. nowhere, it evaporates
  11. It only flows a few days each year
  12. Cheyenne range Tasmania, because it was the river that when they protested the damming and the labor party won they made the government responsible for national parks
  13. The high court ruling by Bob Hawke

1.6

  1. Climate is the pattern of weather that is expected in a particular place, based on the experience of the last 30 yearss while the weather is what is happeneing right now like if it is raining or if it is snowing and the temperature
  2. the lower or higher away from the Equator you are the colder it is but the closer to the equator the hotter it is, so the higher the number the colder it is.
  3. The wind goes in the other direction and it is more high pressure.
  4. People who live closer to the coast are colder in weather because you get the cold winds from the ocean.
  5. It means that their is a time when Australia gets a period of rain bringing the relief to all the plants and animals giving it its name sake
  6.  a. so they can judge when they should plant what plants and when is a good time to stock up feed for the animals
b. so they can pick when to come so it isn't to hot or to cold or raining heavily
7. the Vegetation in Australia is hardy and can survive the extrems in weather which the Australian climate gives allot of .
8. Hobart, 50 mm per month,

Vladimir from Moscow

Dear Vladimir,
In Sydney it is warmer at this time of year about 20-30 Degrees Celsius so it is a lot different to the 0 to -12 Degrees Celsius so bring a light jumper and shorts but nothing heavy but in Sydney in May you will need a jumper it is a smaller difference to Russia so you will need it. When we go to Thredbo you will need what you wear in Russia at the same time but we will get more rain then you do in Russia but in Thredbo there is a high chance of rain as well as in Sydney so bring a rain coat or a umbrella with a jacket underneath.
So all in all bring some jumpers light and heavy an umbrella/ rain coat but bring a heavy coat like that grey great coat I saw you wearing in your photo that you sent so that would be good when we go to Thredbo also bring longsleves and jeans for all years sneakers shorts and T-Shirts even though you may not have any we will go and by some if you don't.
